ICON.ORG.UA is the first and only Internet gallery of Ukrainian icon painting in the world, representing all the schools and periods.
The site has been created to popularize the Ukrainian icon painting tradition and to debunk, in a scientific way, some myths about the “provincial and non-canonical” character of Ukrainian icon painting, as its creators say.
Ukrainian iconography is as much an integral part of Ukrainian culture as Ukrainian songs, embroidery designs or the indestructible love of freedom.
Here you will find Ukrainian icons from the oldest preserved monuments up to the modern time. You will have an opportunity to explore the iconography and get acquainted with the life and activity of the most famous Ukrainian icon painters, “most of whom did not yield to, and even surpassed, considerably, the famous Muscovite and Byzantine icon painters”.

It is high time to destroy the imposed stereotypes about the “provincial and non-canonical” character of Ukrainian genius; it is time to fall in love with the vivifying faith of Ukrainian icons, as the site creators relate.
